Exonerated Justice Ademola’s wife returns as Lagos HoS

The Lagos State Head of Service, HoS, Olabowale Ademola, yesterday resumed work, barely 21 days after an Abuja High Court dismissed charges against her and the husband, Justice Adeniyi Ademola.  Mrs Ademola stepped down from office as HoS last year, to allow her challenge allegations levelled against her, the husband and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Joe Agi.  Mrs Ademola sought Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s  permission to return to work after she cleared her name from the charges levelled against her and others. In order not to create any vacuum, Ambode appointed Folashade Adesoye, to act during her absence. 

Court grants ‘iron bail’ to IPOB leader, Kan

  EMBATTLED Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since October 14, 2015, yesterday, secured bail from the Federal High Court in Abuja.  Trial Justice, Binta Nyako, granted Kanu bail on stringent conditions and refused to okay the release of three other pro-Biafra agitators- Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi- who are facing trial alongside the IPOB leader. Suspended Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, David Babachir Lawal, was, yesterday, grilled by Presidential panel investigating the $43 million cash found in a luxury apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, and the N220 million meant for welfare of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in North-East. His appearance before the panel, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, came barely 24 hours after Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ambassador Ayodele Oke, was grilled for over eight hours by the panel.  The SGF was quizzed on a day indications emerged that the House of Representatives may conduct an independent investigative hearing into the cash haul found in the Ikoyi apartment. Court sentences 4 persons to death for stealing motorcycle

 A High Court in Osun sentenced four persons to death for conspiracy and armed robbery - The convicts were presented before the court on a four-count charge of armed robbery and conspiracy An Osun High Court has sentenced four persons to death on Tuesday, April 25. The convicts, Joseph Moses, 24, Samuel Job, 19, Gideon Ode, 25, and Daniel Abraham, 24, were presented before the court.  According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mrs Abdulrahman Temitope, the prosecutor, told the court that the convicts committed the offense on October 14, 2013, at about 8:00 pm along Kajola expressway in Osogbo.  Temitope said the convicts conspired among themselves to rob one Abubakar Rauf of his motorcycle with registration number BDG 896 QB.  She said, “The suspects conspired to attack the complainant with a knife and dangerous weapons collecting his motorcycle. “They injured the complainant and also carted away his Bajaj motorcycle to their house before they were apprehended,” ...

An 87-year-old Nigerian man has been blessed with a bouncing baby girl - The baby happens to be his first child of the old man who was married to his first wife for many years before she passed on. The woman did not bear him a child and this did not reduce his love for her.  After the death of the first wife, the 87-year-old man married a younger lady who bore him his first child. The new wife delivered a healthy and bouncing baby girl.

Man breaks wife’s head with hammer after 20 years of marriage  .  In Akwa Ibom state, an engineer who reportedly a staff of Exxon Mobil Nigeria, has battered his wife of 20 years with a hammer, which gave her a deep cut on the head. NAIJ.com gathered that a Facebook user identified as Prince Abubakar Aphyz‎ has taken to the wall of the Due Process Advocates (DPA) to share some graphic photos and story of a housewife who was battered by her husband with a hammer in Akwa Ibom state.  Prince Abubakar Aphyz posted her pictures with the caption: Woman's head broken by her husband “This is Mrs Ntienseobot Anietimfon Ekere of 1, Udo Umoh close, Off Udo Ikpe street, Off Nwaniba road, Uyo. Goodluck Jonathan to be questioned by Osinbajo-led panel

Goodluck Jonathan is expected to be questioned by the three-man panel investigating the recovered Ikoyi monies - The former president's name has been linked to it by the NIA - The CBN governor, Godwin EMefiele, would also be questioned  Former president, Goodluck Jonathan is expected to appear before the three-man committee headed by vice president, Yemi Osinbajo over his alleged involvement in the N13 billion recovered in Ikoyi apartment. A whistle-blower tip had led operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to Osborne towers in Ikoyi where $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 were recovered.  Reports filtered in a few days later that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) claimed the EFCC operation has bungled a covert security operation and that the fund actually belonged to the agency. Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has paid a surprise visit to the Uduehi family, who recently gave birth to a set of quintuplets - The Edo state governor supported the family with N1 million and promised them additional support by covering the medical bills - The family who is based in Abuja have named their children Ainose, Esose, Osejade, Obehi and Omose  Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has paid a surprise visit to the Uduehi family, who recently gave birth to a set of quintuplets at the National Hospital in Abuja. Uduehi, who hails from Ekpoma in Esan West local government area of Edo state, had earlier expressed surprise and joy at having five children at once revealing that they had only asked God for twins. A statement endorsed by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. John Mayaki said: "Governor Obaseki, on hearing the news, immediately paid the family a visit through a representative.

Over 100 troops dead in Taliban attack on Afghanistan military base

More than 100 Afghan soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on an army base in northern Afghanistan - The fight lasted for several hours near the city of Mazar-e Sharif in northern Balkh province - The insurgents targeted those leaving Friday prayers at the base’s mosque, as well as others in a canteen More than 100 Afghan soldiers were killed or wounded in a Taliban attack on an army base on Friday, April 21, the defence ministry has confirmed.  BBC reports that the fighting lasted for several hours near the city of Mazar-e Sharif in northern Balkh province.  The veteran actor passed on in the early hours of today - He had reportedly been battling a heart/lung ailment After battling with a heart/lung linked ailment, popular Nigerian actor Olumide Bakare is dead. He died in the early hours of today April 22, 2017.  Popular for his fatherly roles in many Nollywood movies, Bakare had come out in 2016 to ask Nigerians for help to treat his ailment as he was spending close more than N30,000 daily . May the good Lord grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss, Amen.

Magu declares war against treasury looters, says anti-corruption war unstoppable

Court frees 44 IPOB members from detention

  A magistrate court sitting in the Bayelsa has struck out a case against 44 members of IPOB - The Bayelsa state police command had charged the accused persons to court on three count charges bordering on conspiracy, beach of public peace and unlawful gathering   In delivering judgement, the court struck out the case against the detained IPOB members on the ground that it had a no case submission A magistrate court sitting in the Bayelsa state capital, Yenagoa, has set free about forty-four members of the Indigenous People ‎of Biafra (IPOB) from police detention. The Sun reports that the IPOB members were arrested in October 2016 by men of the Joint Military Task Force code named Operation Delta Safe during their meeting at Okaka area of the state capital and handed to the police authorities for prosecution.

Nnamdi Kanu granted bail by High Court in Abuja

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. Nnamdi Kanu was granted bail on health grounds by the court on Tuesday, April 25. The IPOB leader is also expected to provide three sureties one of who must be a serving senator, a jewish religious leader and highly respected person and must own a land in anywhere in Abuja. The Nigerian police has said that it is wrong for any police officer to request for citizens’ phone. The police said officers have no right to search mobile phones of citizens whenever on routine stop and search on Nigerian road. The Lagos state police spokesperson Dolapo Badmus in video said phones are private belonging and citizens deserve a right to their privacy. Badmus said:  “Your phone is private; it's your private property because people do a lot of private stuffs on their mobile phones so it's wrong." "Police officers have no right to do that except there is a reasonable ground to do so,"  Badmus said.
