Nnamdi Kanu granted bail by High Court in Abuja

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. Nnamdi Kanu was granted bail on health grounds by the court on Tuesday, April 25. The IPOB leader is also expected to provide three sureties one of who must be a serving senator, a jewish religious leader and highly respected person and must own a land in anywhere in Abuja.   As part of his bail conditions, Kanu was ordered never to grant any press interview pending the outcome of his trial. The court also ordered that he will not be in a gathering of more than 10 persons. The judge on the matter Justice Binta Nyako said Kanu's bail will be revoked if any of the orders are flouted. However, the other accused persons were denied bail. According to the judge, treasonable felony - the charges against them is a serious offence against the state.

  Also, the judge refused the application by Kanu to vary her previous order on protecting witnesses in the matter.l Nyako said the witnesses who have been identified as security operatives cannot be exposed in the course of the trial. She further held that the witnesses will be identified with alphabets during the trial. NAIJ.com recalls that that prior to his arraignment today, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in their hundreds were seen gathered at the court premises. The protesters said they were in Abuja from all states across Nigeria to support their leader Nnamdi Kanu. Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state was also at the Federal High Court Abuja to show support for pro-Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu. According to Lere Olayinka, Fayose's aide on new media, the governor is presently seated inside Federal High Court 4 as the leader of the secessionist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) appears before Justice Nya In the NAIJ.com video below, watch reactions that trailed the bail condition granted to Nnamdi Kanu in court today, April 25. This is the first time that Fayose is openly showing support for the movement for the break away of the the Southeast from the Nigerian union as desired by pro-Biafra supporters.

The Nigerian police has said that it is wrong for any police officer to request for citizens’ phone. The police said officers have no right to search mobile phones of citizens whenever on routine stop and search on Nigerian road. The Lagos state police spokesperson Dolapo Badmus in video said phones are private belonging and citizens deserve a right to their privacy. Badmus said:  “Your phone is private; it's your private property because people do a lot of private stuffs on their mobile phones so it's wrong." "Police officers have no right to do that except there is a reasonable ground to do so,"  Badmus said.

Goodluck Jonathan to be questioned by Osinbajo-led panel
